Join us for a Fireside Chat with Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, Chief Innovation Officer of ManpowerGroup. During this session, Dr. Tomas will share more about his book Why do so many incompetent men become leaders?

In his book, Dr. Tomas asks two powerful questions: Why is it so easy for incompetent men to become leaders? And why is it so hard for competent people--especially competent women--to advance?

When competent women--and men who don't fit the stereotype--are unfairly overlooked, we all suffer the consequences. Dr. Tomas will share more about what is critically flawed in the system, show us what it really takes to lead and how new systems and processes can help us put the right people in charge.

Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic joined ManpowerGroup in 2018 as Chief Talent Scientist, responsible for leading the Center of Excellence for Assessment and Analytics, developing data-driven solutions and insight to create new value for clients and candidates by driving predictable performance.

Chamorro-Premuzic is passionate about leveraging people, analytics and assessment to help individuals understand themselves better and companies better understand their people. He joined ManpowerGroup from Hogan Assessments, a world leader in personality assessment, leadership and organizational effectiveness, where he was CEO. He is a Professor of Business Psychology at University College London and Visiting Professor at Columbia University in New York.

A well-known international expert in business psychology, people analytics and talent management, Chamorro-Premuzic has written 10 books and over 150 scientific papers on the psychology of talent, leadership, innovation, and AI. He has released three TED talks including two on the topic of his best-selling book, Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders (And How to Fix it). His work has been recognized by the American Psychological Association, the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences, and the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

Chamorro-Premuzic regularly speaks at high profile events and shares his perspective in global media including the BBC, CNN, Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and Fast Company.

Tomas was born in Buenos Aires. He has spent most of his professional career in London and now lives in New York with his wife and two children.

Dr. Laurel Teo, CFA, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), National University of Singapore. Her research focuses on the future of work. She studies how people respond to developments in the future labor landscape, in particular the impact of technological changes on the identity, well-being, and power dynamics of employees and leaders in organizations. She hopes that overall, her research can help make the workplace – whether physical or virtual – a fairer and happier one where people can thrive at what they do best. Laurel began her career in journalism before joining consulting in the financial sector. Dr. Teo began her career in journalism before joining consulting in the financial sector. She also spent some years in Hong Kong with CFA Institute where she worked on regulatory outreach and investor protection for the Asia Pacific region. She returned to Singapore in 2017 to pursue a PhD in organizational behavior and human resources at Singapore Management University. Laurel earned her Chartered Financial Analyst® designation in 2011 and currently volunteers as honorary secretary of CFA Society Singapore, an association with a membership of more than 4,000 investment and financial professionals. She graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor's degree (magna cum laude) double majoring in Anthropology and Chinese.
