However, both are vulnerable to primary challengers amid increasing preferences for a fresh face and only a plurality of support within the parties for either man as party standard-bearers. ‪Trump's indictment, U.S.-China tensions, a potential economic downturn, and the ongoing war in Ukraine are also likely to become prominent features looming over the 2024 election.

AmCham is honored to host ‪former U.S. Ambassador to Singapore Frank Lavin ‪for an exclusive discussion on U.S. Politics and the 2024 Presidential Race. In addition to his service in Singapore as U.S. Ambassador, Frank was also Undersecretary for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce and served as White House Political Director Under President Reagan. He currently has a monthly column in Forbes as well as regular television appearances as a commentator.

Join us as Frank lays out the likely scenarios that will play out in the upcoming high-stakes power battle for the White House and shares his analysis on what to expect in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential race.

Frank Lavin is the CEO and founder of Export Now, a firm that helps brands around the world in China e-commerce strategy and operations.

Lavin served as Under Secretary for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Bush (43) Administration. In that capacity, Lavin served as lead trade negotiator for both China and India and was responsible for commercial policy, export promotion, and trade negotiations across the globe. Lavin was previously U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, where he helped negotiate the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.

In the private sector, Lavin served in senior finance and management positions in Hong Kong and Singapore with Edelman, Bank of America, and Citibank.

Lavin also served in the Bush (41) and Reagan Administrations, working in the Department of Commerce, Department of State, National Security Council, and White House.

Lavin earned a B.S. from the School of Foreign Service and an M.S. in Chinese Language and History (both Georgetown); an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from SAIS (Johns Hopkins); and an M.B.A. in Finance from Wharton (Pennsylvania).

He is a columnist for Forbes.com and has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and elsewhere.

Lavin is the author of “The Smart Business Guide to China E-Commerce,” (Penguin), co-author of “Export Now,” (Wiley) on market entry strategies, and author of “Home Front to Battlefront” (Ohio University Press), a World War II history book.

Lavin serves as a Trustee of The Asia Foundation, a Director of the Asia Society of Northern California, and a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Advanced MedTech Holdings, a medical technologies company. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and on the Advisory Board of ECIPE, a Brussels think-tank.. Lavin served as a Lt Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

Angela Mancini is Partner and Head of Control Risks’ Southeast Asia office, leading a team that manages political risk, investigative and security consulting projects for multinational clients across ASEAN. Prior to this, she was based in New York City as the Managing Director leading the firm’s accounts team for the Eastern U.S. and Canada, and headed the Financial Services practice in the Americas.

Angela is a CPA, formerly with Deloitte & Touche, and has worked in financial services and economic development for over 20 years, covering Asia for the past decade. She has been posted in Russia, Indonesia and Egypt and has worked extensively in India, China, and sub-Saharan Africa. Her technical specialties are governance, anti-corruption, and risk management consulting.

Before joining Control Risks, Angela was Managing Director and Head of Asia, Russia/Eurasia and Africa Programs for the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, a boutique advisory chaired by former US Fed Chair Paul Volcker. She is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and appears regularly in the media, including on BBC, CNBC, Channel News Asia, Bloomberg News, NPR and in the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal.
