COP26 Summit: Reflections

Event Details

Though 135 countries have committed to net zero emissions targets, the IPCC reports that global warming of 1.5°C will likely be exceeded during the 21st century. Alongside U.S. re-engagement and a whole-of government approach to climate change, the COP26 Summit holds promise to be a turning point in the climate crisis. As countries set their sights on economic recovery amidst COVID-19, the conference also presents an opportunity for a green recovery worldwide. However, while COP26 targets $100bn in climate finance provisions yearly, what it yields could be different.

An active advocate for green building and sustainability for over two decades, Esther has been instrumental in establishing CDL’s leadership in sustainability. It is ranked top real estate company on the 2021 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. It became the first real estate conglomerate in Southeast Asia to sign the WorldGBC’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings in February 2021. Key ESG initiatives she has spearheaded include publishing the first sustainability report in Singapore in 2008; issuing the first green bond by a Singaporean company in 2017 and building an integrated sustainability reporting framework since 2015.

A forerunner in embracing the UN SDGs, Esther was conferred 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact. She is also a signatory for the UNGC Caring for Climate network and an executive council member of the UN ESCAP Sustainable Business Network. She sits on the boards or advisory platforms of several organisations, including World Green Building Council, Global Reporting Initiative, GRESB Asian Real Estate Benchmark Committee and UNEP FI Real Estate Work Group. She chairs the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association’s Sustainability and ESG Committee; Co-Chairs the Urban Land Institute Singapore’s Sustainability Product Council and is the Vice-Chairperson of the Singapore Institute of Directors’ ESG Committee.

Terence has group wide responsibility for the origination and relationship management of US, Europe and UK Multi-national Corporates at DBS. He has coverage and execution experience across all core Asian geographic markets of DBS from Great China, South East Asia, from Korea to India. He has been a DBS banker for over 20 years, with experience in corporate finance and M&As, Asian debt & equity capital market fund raising, and having led the underwriting of clients’ landmark financings from the bank market. Terence has been advising client’s on scaling their businesses regionally, and optimizing working capital, leveraging on supply chain and open account solutions. He is closely associated with DBS’ digital agenda, having more than a decade of experience in the bank’s Telecoms Media & Technology (TMT) segment. Today, Terence & his teams catalyze clients’ digital transformation, applying capabilities developed from DBS’ lead role in payments innovation, treasury operations efficiency and supply chain digitalization. This extends to breakthrough enablers for Sustainability in the form of traceability, transitional finance and in applying carbon credit offsets.

Terence has been responsible for oversight of our business platform in London and Los Angeles for over 6 years. This includes overseeing the restructuring of DBS LA from Agency to representative office, while growing our US client base and having secured the highest regulatory audit rating for consecutive years.

Terence holds Bachelor degrees in Commerce and in Laws from University of Melbourne, Australia.
