Join us on Friday mornings for a breakfast dialogue with our Board of Governors. This Series, Breakfast with the Board, will feature one AmCham Governor in each session, giving members the opportunity to hear about their professional journeys and their companies and engage with our Governors first-hand on how they became part of the AmCham community. The sessions will be moderated by one of our Committee Co-Chairs.

We will be hosting Susan Hughes, President of Emerson Asia Pacific for our next session. Susan will share insights on her personal career journey and how AmCham has helped Emerson's business in Singapore. She will encourage discussion around the market outlook for the Asia region.

Susan Hughes

President, Asia Pacific at Emerson Automation Solutions

Eric Tan

Managing Director, Singapore of Federal Express

Susan Hughes was named President of Emerson’s business in Asia Pacific in 2020 and is based in Singapore.

In this role, she oversees business platform operations and sales across the region. She has been with Emerson for more than 18 years and has worked in a variety of different functional groups including Marketing, Engineering, Operations and Sales. Susan has been located in 7 different cities across the world with Emerson and is known for her commitment to customer centricity, innovation, safety, and promoting diversity equity and inclusion.

Prior to this appointment, Susan served as Emerson’s vice president and general manager of the Micro Motion brand which makes Coriolis mass flow meters. She was also vice president and general manager of the TESCOM brand which makes high pressure regulators, serving a variety of industries.

From 2008 to 2013, Susan held various management positions at Emerson businesses in China, including starting up an engineering and product marketing center for Emerson’s Micro Motion and Rosemount brands in Nanjing. She also served as the plant manager for the Fisher brand in Shanghai and still considers being a plant manager one of her most rewarding assignments.

Susan holds bachelor’s degrees in math and Chinese from Grinnell College and an MBA degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Eric Tan is an accomplished executive with over twenty years of experience in the logistics and transportation industry. Currently serving as the Managing Director of FedEx Singapore, Eric’s leadership and expertise are demonstrated through his eﬀective oversight and coordination of end-to-end operational activities, implementation of corporate strategies, and driving overall growth in Singapore. Additionally, Eric oversees operations at the South Paciﬁc Regional Hub situated in Singapore. His extensive journey with FedEx spans nearly 22 years, during which he has held various leadership positions. Before joining FedEx, Eric gained valuable experience while living and working in the United States.

Driven by a strong commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles, Eric actively collaborates with government oﬃcials, organisations and industry leaders to champion responsible corporate citizenship and promote sustainability. Eric also places great emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ac􀀁vi􀀁es and has ensured that FedEx Singapore consistently gives back to the community it serves. Notably, Eric has been involved in the FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge in Singapore for over a decade.

Hailing from Singapore, Eric holds an MBA from Indiana State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. He is also a certiﬁed SAFe 5 Practitioner (Scaled Agile).
