The US-ASEAN Business Council, in partnership with AmCham Singapore, BSA, U.S. Embassy Singapore and the Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore, is pleased to invite you to the upcoming meeting of the Singapore Joint Cyber Security Working Group (JCSWG).

This JCSWG meeting will include updates from CSA as well as a robust panel session on multi-stakeholder cybersecurity partnerships.

Amb. Michael W. Michalak joined the US-ASEAN Business Council in September2015 as Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director. He oversees the Council’s six offices in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)from the Council’s regional headquarters in Singapore and leads the Council’s regional advocacy efforts and engages regularly with key ASEAN policymakers and thought leaders to offer his unique perspective on the key role U.S. businesses can play in ASEAN. He also manages, coaches and develops the Council’s most critical resource: its staff.

Amb. Michalak most recently worked as an independent business consultant focused on Asia and particularly Vietnam. He also served as Senior Advisor to the private sector host committee of the U.S. APEC Year (2011). His diplomatic career with the U.S. State Department spanned more 30 years and included postings to Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Islamabad, Pakistan; Beijing, China; as well as Washington, D.C. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam from August 2007 to February 2011.Prior to his position in Vietnam, Amb. Michalak was Ambassador and Senior U.S. Official to APEC. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. In addition, he received a group award for valor for his actions in time of crisis when the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad was burned down. Amb. Michalak began his career as a research physicist at NASA.

Ms Gwenda Fong is the Assistant Chief Executive at the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA). She is responsible for guiding and coordinating Singapore’s cybersecurity developments, which includes domestic and international strategies and policies. Since joining CSA in 2017, Gwenda has been involved in the drafting and implementation of the Cybersecurity Act that was passed in Parliament in 2018, as well as in the development of Singapore’s Safer Cyberspace Masterplan that was launched in Oct 2020.

Gwenda also holds a concurrent appointment as Senior Director (Futures) at the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), where she leads research onlong-term challenges and disruptions in the areas of communication, information, and digitalisation.

Prior to CSA, Gwenda was Director in the Ageing Planning Office in the Ministry of Health. She has also held roles in the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Science & Technology Agency.

Gwenda holds a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a MSc in International Planning from University College London.

Marc Mealy is the Senior Vice President-Policy at the US-ASEAN Business Council. He manages the production of the Council’s information products, coordinates advocacy efforts across our country and industry committees, and serves as the in-house lead on international trade policy. He joined the Council in 2003 as the Senior Director for Malaysia, Philippines and Brunei Affairs as well as Coordinator of the Council's ASEAN Financial Services Working Group. He was named the Vice President in 2010.

Marc has over twenty years of experience in international trade and economics.

He began his professional career in 1989 as an international economist with International Trade Policy Division of USDA's Foreign Agricultural Services. While at USDA he was accepted into the United States Foreign Service, and later went on to manage some of USDA’s largest commodity trade finance (GSM) and food assistance programs (PL-480) in Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe for USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation.

In 1994-1996, he joined the African American Institute, an international non-profit NGO, as the Director of its Trade and Investment Program and later worked as a consultant to foreign government and international development NGO’s.

Prior to joining the Council Marc spent four years inside the U.S. Congress. From 1999-2001 he was a member of the Professional Staff of the House International Relations Committee. From 2001 to 2003, he served as the international economic and foreign policy advisor to Congressmen Gregory Meeks of New York, a member of the House Foreign Affairs and Financial Services Committees.

Marc holds a B.A. in Economics and Third World Studies from Oberlin College and an M.S. degree in Economics from the University of Florida.

Douglas is the current Economic Officer in the Economic – Political Section, covering the cyber and digital portfolios. He previously served in Manila as the Trade Officer, advancing trade policy and reporting on economic interests within the Philippines. He also served in New Delhi, India and Costa Rica as an Economic and Political Officer, respectively. His first tour with the State Department was in Shanghai, China as a Consular Officer. Doug is originally from Wyoming and has a BS in Accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Duke University with an emphasis in International Finance and Economics. Before joining State, Doug worked in the accounting and banking industry, most recently with Merrill Lynch Bank of America. He is joined in Singapore by his wife, Christine Fowler, and their four children. Doug is a huge fan of skiing, good BBQ, and the NY Yankees.

Joshua McCloud is the lead for cybersecurity strategic country engagement and consulting in Cisco's Security & Trust Organization (STO) for ASEAN. STO is responsible for protecting Cisco’s enterprise business operations, ensuring the security and integrity of Cisco’s products and services, and collaborating with governments, industry, and standards bodies to strengthen national cybersecurity posture. Joshua works with government cybersecurity agencies, critical industry sectors, and large enterprise organizations to improve cybersecurity effectiveness in alignment with organizational and business goals.

Joshua has worked for over 20 years in the public and private sector environment supporting customers in Asia, the US, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Joshua has deep expertise in the areas of cybersecurity, architectural methodologies and frameworks, and software defined networking. He is a speaker at industry events, has published numerous articles, and co-authored the book ‘SAP on the Cloud’.

Ian Lim is field chief security officer for Asia Pacific at Palo Alto Networks. In his role, Ian helps to develop innovative solutions, threat prevention strategies, and risk management frameworks for business executives as well as the wider cybersecurity community.

With over 20 years of dedicated cybersecurity experience, Ian has led global security departments for Fortune 100 companies, deploying defense-in-depth capabilities to thwart advanced attacks. He has cross-industry cybersecurity expertise in the financial, real estate, and healthcare verticals, and has done on-the-ground work in the US, EMEA and APAC. He is also instrumental in developing governance policies and risk frameworks to meet regulatory compliance requirements.

Ian graduated from University of California Irvine (UCI) with a Computer Science and English degree and is currently an Executive Committee member at his alma mater’s Cyber Research Policy Institute. On the publishing front, Ian is the principal author of “Information Security Cost Management” and “Securing Cloud and Mobility”, and a guest author in Auerbach’s Information Security Management Handbook (required reading for CISSP).

In his free-time, Ian enjoys filmmaking and has participated in short film competitions.
