The next AAP Author Series will be with Bilahari as he discussed his latest book, "Singapore Is Still Not an Island".

This second collection from Singapore's well-respected, highly experienced "undiplomatic diplomat" provides a front-row seat to the US - China competition to be the dominant player in a global system in which both are vital, irreplaceable components, and why balancing between China and the US is Singapore's toughest and most imperative challenge.

Now with the freedom of being a self-described "pensioner", Bilahari provides unvarnished insights and analysis which will be of value to practitioners of geopolitics and those impacted by it.

The session will be moderated by AAP Chair Steven Okun, and will include an interactive discussion with the members.

Steven Okun’s thirty-year career in public affairs includes leadership positions in government, business and industry associations.

Since 2017, he serves as a Senior Advisor to global geostrategic consultancy McLarty Associates working with multinational clients across the region. As KKR’s first Director of Asia Public Affairs from 2011-2017, his responsibilities encompassed government affairs, communications, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability. From 2003-2010, he created and led Asia public affairs for global logistics firm UPS.

Steve serves as Chair of the AmChams of Asia Pacific, the umbrella organization of American Chambers of Commerce that promotes trade and investment between the region and the United States and previously served four terms as a Governor for AmCham Singapore, including being elected three times as Chair.

Awarded a Special Service Commendation in the Clinton Administration, Steven served as Deputy General Counsel at the US Department of Transportation from 1994-1999.

A frequent analyst for global media, he also authors regular commentary and is the featured guest on Singapore’s MONEY FM International News Review.

A sought-after expert, he speaks frequently to businesses, investor groups, at universities and conferences across the region.

He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
