Event Details

The practice of inclusion in the workplace ensures that everyone in the company, regardless of who they are or what they do for the business, feel involved and deepens a strong sense of belonging in the workplace. Studies on inclusion have shown that inclusion is a competitive differentiator in business. Employees who feel more connected work harder and smarter, producing higher quality work resulting in better business results, innovation, and decision-making.

To be effective, diversity and inclusion need to work together. It is not enough for businesses to bring diverse groups into the organization. Inclusion is an active process that requires the organization to function differently, with demonstrably better impact. It is for this critical reason that the policy of inclusion needs to be continually developed and put into action.

Mui Hwa NG (she/her/hers) is an independent and experienced Leadership and Organisational Development Consultant for the past 22 years. She has been a senior consultant to established Leadership Development Consultancies such as Cartus, Aperian Global, Center for Creative Leadership(CCL) and Impact International for client organisations ranging from international multinational corporations (MNC) to local small and medium enterprises (SME).

Mui Hwa has designed and developed Leadership Development interventions in face to face and virtual programmes in English and Mandarin for organisations based across Asia Pacific spanning across Japan to India and China to Australia/NZ.

Some of the client organisations with sustained and repeated partnerships include Asia Development Bank, Exxon Mobil, LEGO, Johnson & Johnson, Standard Chartered Bank, Credit Suisse, Mitsui Corporation, BASF, BNP, Apple, Facebook as well as local SMEs in Singapore through TAFEP – Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (https://www.tal.sg/tafep). She was instrumental in designing and delivering the pioneering programmes for Inclusion for TAFEP member organisations from 2012-2015.

Mui Hwa has been a keynote speaker on public webinars and forums representing several of the consulting firms she works with. These also extend to include the Singapore chapters of - American Chamber of Commerce, Financial Women Association, Prime Time, Lex Mundi (world’s leading network of independent lawyers).

Mui Hwa’s mantra is TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE.

She is a graduate of Sociology and English Language from National University of Singapore and embarked on this current 21 year career in Leadership and Organisational Development after about 15 years in the advertising industry under the WPP umbrella as a client management regional lead.

Mui Hwa is currently based in Singapore.

Sophie Guerin is the Head of Diversity & Inclusion, APAC at Johnson & Johnson. Prior to joining J&J, Sophie was the Head of D&I, APAC at Dell Technologies and the Head of D&I for Community Business. She has been living and working in APAC on and off for 18 years.

Currently residing in Singapore, Sophie is a recognized expert on diversity & inclusion in Asia and speaks frequently at industry and thought leadership forums. She is co-author of “Examining Diversity & Inclusion from an Asian Perspective” and “Developing Dependency” which explores special economic zones in the Greater Mekong Sub-region. She is a member of the Diversity & Inclusion in Asia Network Advisory Council and a Founding Member of the American Chamber of Commerce Singapore Women’s Steering Committee. Sophie is the first recipient of the American Chamber of Commerce China Committee of the Year Award and is the Founder of Women in International Public Affairs based in Paris, France.

She and her partner have a toddler and two cats.

Distinctively licensed to practice in the United States and her native Japan, Aki Tanaka focuses her practice on international employment and labor law, and is a member of Littler’s APAC team. She understands the laws, language and culture in both countries, and her bilingual abilities bring clarity to workplace uncertainties for Japanese and U.S. employers. Her guidance, document reviews and communication can be conducted in English or Japanese, which conveys precision and efficiency to the counseling process.

Based on her unique knowledge and experience in U.S. common law jurisdiction and Japanese civil law jurisdiction, Aki also advises U.S.-based, or Asia-based companies on their outbound international labor and employment laws across the globe as well.

Among Aki’s successful engagements for clients are the following:
• Assisting clients to properly engage workforce in Japan for their market entry to Japan including helping them develop proper employment documents and obtain visa
• Counseling clients on terminations, restructuring, market exit, and unpaid overtime issues in Japan
• Assisting Japanese clients in the U.S. with discrimination litigation or mediations especially with high level executives as well as providing daily consultation on U.S. employment laws
• Providing anti-harassment training in Japanese or English, both in Japan and the U.S.

Yi-Ren Wang is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Asia School of Business, a collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management.

Dr. Wang’s research interests include workplace inclusion and diversity, work motivation, fairness, work-family dynamics, and employee well-being. The ultimate goal of her research is to identify the causes of workplace inequality and promote inclusion, particularly for workers in underprivileged conditions. Her ongoing projects aim to 1) explain the motivational and behavioral challenges faced by underprivileged workers at work, 2) highlight the importance of organizational justice for promoting a long-term perspective and career investment for workers in precarity, and 3) theorize the transmission of occupational strain across life boundaries and between individuals.

Dr. Wang received her Ph.D. in Management from the University of Alabama. She received her master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from National Taiwan University.

Nadir is Chief Experience Officer (CXO) of the Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI). Nadir joins HCLI from UAE-based education technology company Alef Education where he was Chief Operating Officer. During his time, the company grew from a start-up to an award-winning organization that serves several hundred thousand students.

Nadir was one of the founding leaders of Alef Education and set up and oversaw the marketing, finance, human resources, legal, audit, procurement, and business support departments. He also spearheaded the company’s expansion into Asia, set up a healthcare program, and launched a new schools management business that was spun off into an independent entity.

Nadir’s experience spans over 20 years. Prior to Alef Education, he was at GEMS Education, where he reported directly to the Group CEO and served on the senior leadership team. He was then posted to Singapore as Director of Corporate Development, leading admissions and marketing for their Singapore school. In previous roles, Nadir has worked closely with the CEO of one of the largest shipping companies in the world and the CEO of one of the Middle East region’s largest media companies. Nadir has worked in UAE, India, Thailand, and Singapore.

Nadir graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management (Marketing) from the pioneer batch of the Singapore Management University and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He is currently doing his Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation at New York University. His past and current leadership experience extends to serving on the Board of a London-listed global education company, President of the Singapore Business Council in UAE, alumni leader for both his alma maters, and founder of an EdTech venture. Nadir is Singaporean.
