Shibani Mahtani presents Among The Braves: Hope, Struggle, and Exile in the Battle for Hong Kong and the Future of Global Democracy published by Hachette.
When Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests erupted in 2019, award winning foreign correspondents Shibani Mahtani and Timothy McLaughlin spent months on the city's streets capturing the movement's rise and the subsequent crackdown that followed. Their newly released book delves deeper into the history of Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement, the city's long struggle for a political voice and its future under more forceful rule by Beijing. Called a "vivid and engrossing account of the city's protest movement and its aftermath," by The Wall Street Journal and hailed by Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa as a "piercing revelation," the book weaves together the stories of four Hong Kongers to show their struggles and a city's transformation.
