Following the results of the November U.S. Election, AmChamSG is introducing a new limited virtual series of America Through the Eyes of Economists hosted by our CEO, Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei.

Our guest on Monday, 16 December at 10am will be Selena Ling, Chief Economist and Head, Global Markets Research & Strategy at OCBC. Ms. Ling will share insights on how America looks through her eyes, how the partnership between the U.S. and Singapore/Southeast Asia will evolve, and how companies can prepare for the months and years ahead.

The first half of the virtual session will be broadcast on LinkedIn Live followed by a closed-door Q&A open only to registered guests.

Selena Ling

Chief Economist and Head, Global Markets Research & Strategy at OCBC

Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei

CEO of AmCham Singapore

Selena is the Chief Economist for OCBC. As Head of Global Markets Research & Strategy, she leads a research team that is responsible for market research, forecasts and trading recommendations for the bank, covering fixed income, interest rates, corporate credit, foreign exchange and macroeconomic commentary. Under her leadership, OCBC’s research capabilities have been greatly valued by customers and highly ranked in surveys.

She is a member of the OCBC Wealth Panel for Singapore and Malaysia, as well as a Vice President and council member for the Economic Society of Singapore. She also sits on the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers (IVAS), Singapore, which was set up by the Singapore Accountancy Commission. She was conferred the IBF Fellow Award in Financial Markets in 2017. Her research writings has been extensively quoted and published by prominent media across print, television and radio.

Prior to joining OCBC in August 2000, Selena was with the Fiscal Policy Unit under the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the Economics Department in the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Singapore — the largest and the most active international business association in Singapore and Southeast Asia representing over 650 companies. Hsien is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, member of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Advisory Board, Vice President of the Precision Public Health Asia Society, board member of TalenTtrust, member of the United Women Singapore STEM Advisory Panel, and member of the 2023 FIRST Global Challenge host committee.

Prior to AmCham, Hsien was Vice President, Medical and Scientific Affairs, Medtronic Asia Pacific, where she was responsible for the Medtronic Innovation Centers in Japan and Korea, training and education, and the company’s health systems transformation strategy in the region. Hsien has extensive experience in scientific affairs, corporate and healthcare communications, advertising, public relations, and government affairs.

Hsien has lived and worked in the US, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, UK, and is now based in Singapore. She holds a BA (with honors) in Human Biology from Stanford University and a PhD in Epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health where she was the recipient of a US National Institutes of Health Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology Training Grant. Her doctoral thesis explored the genetic epidemiology of end-stage renal disease and type 2 diabetes. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at National Taiwan University Hospital in the Department of Internal Medicine.
