Following the U.S. Presidential Inauguration, AmChamSG is continuing a new limited virtual series of America Through the Eyes of Economists hosted by our CEO, Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei.

Our guest on Monday, 24 February at 10am will be Fan Cheuk Wan, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer, Asia at HSBC Global Private Banking and Wealth. Fan will share insights on how America looks through her eyes, how the partnership between the U.S. and Singapore/Southeast Asia will evolve, and how companies can prepare for the months and years ahead.

The first half of the virtual session will be broadcast on LinkedIn Live followed by a closed-door Q&A open only to registered guests.

Fan Cheuk Wan

Fan Cheuk Wan is Chief Investment Officer, Asia for HSBC Global Private Banking and Wealth (HSBC GPB&W) and acts as a member of the Global Investment Committee for HSBC GPB&W and Chair of the Regional Investment Committee in Asia. In this capacity, she oversees the Chief Investment Office in Asia focusing on developing investment strategies and themes across all asset classes for clients in the region. She is also responsible for driving investment content and regional product fulfillment strategies in Asia.

Fan has close to three decades of investment experience. Prior to joining HSBC in 2016, she worked for Credit Suisse Private Banking, serving as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer Asia Pacific in 2013-2015, Head of Equity Research and Head of Research Asia Pacific in 2006-2013. Previously, Fan held senior China equity research roles for 11 years at ABN AMRO Bank, Cazenove Asia, BNP Peregrine Securities and Standard Chartered Securities.

Fan was awarded “Outstanding Contribution by Chief Investment Officer – Asia” and “CIO of the Year in Asia” at the Global Private Banking Innovation Awards in 2024 and 2023, respectively, in recognition of her achievements in spearheading the Digital CIO, CIO Model Portfolios, successful multi-asset investment strategies, high conviction themes and delivering superior investment advisory services for private banking clients.

Before joining the banking industry, Fan was a political journalist specialised in Chinese and Hong Kong politics for seven years and was Political Editor of Hong Kong Economic Journal. She is a frequent speaker on leading global and local TV channels and regular contributor for major media publications in Asia.

Fan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong, an MA in Area Studies (China) from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London and an MBA from the Imperial College Business School in London.

Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Singapore — the largest and the most active international business association in Singapore and Southeast Asia representing over 650 companies. Hsien is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, member of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Advisory Board, Vice President of the Precision Public Health Asia Society, board member of TalenTtrust, member of the United Women Singapore STEM Advisory Panel, and member of the 2023 FIRST Global Challenge host committee.

Prior to AmCham, Hsien was Vice President, Medical and Scientific Affairs, Medtronic Asia Pacific, where she was responsible for the Medtronic Innovation Centers in Japan and Korea, training and education, and the company’s health systems transformation strategy in the region. Hsien has extensive experience in scientific affairs, corporate and healthcare communications, advertising, public relations, and government affairs.

Hsien has lived and worked in the US, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, UK, and is now based in Singapore. She holds a BA (with honors) in Human Biology from Stanford University and a PhD in Epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health where she was the recipient of a US National Institutes of Health Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology Training Grant. Her doctoral thesis explored the genetic epidemiology of end-stage renal disease and type 2 diabetes. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at National Taiwan University Hospital in the Department of Internal Medicine.
