Event Details
Chun Han Wong, a Singaporean journalist, has covered China for The Wall Street Journal since 2014, writing about issues that span elite politics, Communist Party doctrine, and defense and diplomatic affairs. He was part of a team of Journal reporters named as Pulitzer Prize finalists in 2021 for their coverage of China's autocratic turn under Xi Jinping.
In his book, Party of One: The Rise of Xi Jinping and China's Superpower Future (Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster, 2023), Chun Han draws on in-depth analysis of official speeches and documents and personal conversations with academics, political elites, and diplomats to analyze Xi's ascendance to power and vision for China. He will discuss the book's key findings, his observations about Xi's leadership, his experiences covering China, and the growing challenges in tracking developments in the world's second-largest economy.
