Join us on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, 12 noon to 2pm for the AmCham Women Elevate Symposium: Women at the Heart of Recovery for a discussion on the empowerment of women as the world prevails against COVID-19.

How are women faring in the workplace as we begin the slow process of economic recovery following COVID-19 disruptions? The incremental progress that women were making in the workplace prior to the pandemic have largely been wiped out. According to McKinsey, in response to COVID-19, more women than men are now considering leaving the workforce or downsizing their careers particularly working mothers and women in senior management positions.

In September 2020, Singapore launched Conversations on Women's Development to understand the aspirations of women in Singapore and what can be done collectively to empower, protect and uplift them. Coming out of these conversations, it is clear that public and private sector leaders must embrace innovative tools and technology, forward-looking strategies, and partnerships to ensure that women are at the heart of recovery.

The Symposium will begin with a fireside chat with Corinna Lim, Executive Director, The Association for Women for Action and Research (AWARE), and Ai Hua Ong, Head of Government Affairs & Policy, Asia Pacific, Johnson & Johnson followed by small group, heart-to-heart conversations.

Ms. Corinna Lim

Executive Director of AWARE Singapore

Ai Hua Ong

(Moderator) Head of Government Affairs & Policy, Asia Pacific at Johnson & Johnson

Corinna LIM is the Executive Director of AWARE, the Association of Women for Action and Research. Ms Lim joined AWARE as a member and volunteer in 1992 and has been a women’s rights activist for close to 30 years. She has advocated on issues such as gender-equal workplaces, gender violence and greater support for single parents, lower income women and caregivers of the elderly. She also initiated and led the setting up of the Sexual Assault Care Centre at AWARE in 2011.

Prior to serving as Executive Director of AWARE, Ms Lim practised law for more than 10 years with Allen & Gledhill and Khattar Wong & Partners. She also has over 20 years of entrepreneurial and management experience, having been the co-founder and CEO of Bizibody Technology Pte Ltd, a dot-com company which was successfully transformed into a technology company specialising in the legal industry, as well as having led the creation, development and operation of Justice On Line, the world's first web-based video conferencing facility between the Courts and law firms.

Ms Lim has a Masters in Public Administration (with focus on social entrepreneurship) from Columbia University and is a Fulbright Scholar. She graduated with an LLB from the National University of Singapore and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1988.

Ai Hua joined Johnson & Johnson nearly 30 years ago with the desire to make a difference to the lives of people in need.

Today, she is Head of Government Affairs & Policy for the Company’s pharmaceutical, medical devices, and consumer health businesses in Asia Pacific.

She began her healthcare career in 1991 as a product specialist with Johnson & Johnson Medical before progressing to leadership roles in pharmaceuticals and medical devices in Singapore, China and the United States.

Between 2017 and 2020, Ai Hua was the Company Group Chair for Janssen, the Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson in Asia Pacific, which included the key markets of Japan and China. She helped pioneer and implement J&J’s first one-company business model encompassing pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer health products as President of Southeast Asia. She has also led the surgical business for J&J Medical China as Group General Manager.

Ai Hua holds a BSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry and an MBA from the National University of Singapore. She is an advocate for women in leadership, a committed volunteer and board member of Dover Park Hospice, and an advisory board member for Lee Kong Chian School of Business and Design Singapore Council.
