Event Details
Prabowo Subianto has been inaugurated as president of Southeast Asia's largest democracy on October 20, 2024, almost eight months after being elected in an electoral landslide. Campaigning as the candidate of continuity, Prabowo relied on the backing of incumbent President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi), which was manifested by his selection of running mate.
However, the honeymoon between the two appears to be over. Since the election, Jokowi has been politically active in the background trying to retain influence in a Prabowo-led era, leading him to lose popularity and alienate political allies. Prabowo had been publicly supportive of Jokowi's legacy, including the construction of the new capital of Nusantara, but is beginning to show that his political priorities may now be different. A new cabinet will be announced shortly after the inauguration, which will be the clearest demonstration of Prabowo's priorities and leadership style, and whether he will remain focused on the continuity agenda that he ran on.
Join AmChamSG as we ask the experts to give us their insights into what a Prabowo Administration will mean for business and the U.S.-Indonesia relationship, and how AmChamSG members can position themselves in this new era of Indonesia's growth.
