Redefining Employee Experience with Well-being at the Core

AmCham recently launched its SME ACCelerate program, which aims to support the growth and health of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) through strategic partnerships, operational support, and training and development.

Under the Mental Well-being pillar of the program, AmCham is collaborating with member companies in the mental health space to run a series of workshops. Each workshop will bring SME members together to meet like-minded leaders, discuss their own experiences, and learn about workplace solutions for promoting mental well-being for their employees.

The first workshop, facilitated by Thrive HR Exchange, will focus on redefining the employee experience for today's workforce keeping well-being top of mind, a topic which has evolved at an unprecedented pace over the last few months. Research shows that a majority of organizations globally are anticipating a hybrid office and remote working model through this year and beyond. Promoting employee well-being in a remote setting, while achieving business growth, will therefore be a key priority for many organizations and leaders.

Stephanie Nash is the Co-creator of Thrive HR Exchange and Chief People Officer at ChapmanV. In this role, she provides strategic direction and advisory services across a broad portfolio of business interests and innovations in human resources. This includes ChapmanCG, a global HR executive search firm, the Thrive HR Exchange, an online community platform for HR professionals shaping the future of work and investments in HR technology start-ups.

Prior to joining ChapmanCG, Stephanie held the role of Chief People Officer at RedMart, where she oversaw the growth of the Singapore-based technology and ecommerce platform through the sale to Lazada-Alibaba Group.

Stephanie has more than two decades’ experience as a human resources leader working across the United States, Asia, Australia and South America. During this time, she served in senior HR roles for Fortune 500 companies, including Vice President of Human Resources Asia-Pacific at Allergen, Senior Director Human Resources Asia Pacific at Microsoft, and Group Manager, Human Resources, Base Metals at BHP Billiton. Throughout her career, she has worked across a range of industries, business units, functional areas and geographies in local, multi-country and global capacities.
She also serves as an Advisor to the Workplace Accelerator, Panarchy Partners and the Capture App.

Stephanie is originally from the United States, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Syracuse University, as well as a Diploma in Human Resources Management from the University of California, Berkeley.

Steven Xavier Chan is the senior director and regional head of government relations, Asia-Pacific, for Paypal. Based in Singapore, he leads government advocacy, strategy and outreach efforts across 15 markets in the region.

Steven has more than 20 years of combined government and industry experience in international trade and public policy. Prior to joining Paypal, he was the managing director and regional head of regulatory, industry and government affairs for State Street based in Hong Kong. Steven also served as Director of Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility for the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. He previously held various positions in the US government as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State with overseas and domestic assignments in Mexico, China, and Washington D.C., and as Deputy Director for China and Mongolia Affairs with the Department of Commerce. He also worked at Booz Allen Hamilton and Deloitte Consulting supporting change management and enterprise transformation projects for large organizations.

Steven currently serves as chair of the AmChams of Asia Pacific, board member of the Emerging Payments Association Asia and the National Center for APEC, and an industry leader of the APEC Asia Pacific Financial Forum. Steven earned a Master of Arts in international economics and China studies from the School of Advanced International Studies at The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in international affairs and economics from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

Jeff Paine is the Managing Director of Public Sector (PS) Engage which aims to help organizations build better relationships with their regulators, have more impact in the communities they operate in, and develop partnerships to help realize exponential gains in their core business activities. Prior to establishing PS Engage, Jeff was the Head of Government Relations for Southeast Asia for Visa Inc. In this capacity he is responsible for developing constructive engagement activities to develop and maintain relationships with public sector professionals in ASEAN.

Prior to working with Visa, Jeff Paine worked at Microsoft as Director of Public Sector Partner Business where he was responsible for driving revenue via the Microsoft partner ecosystem that supported governments across Asia Pacific. While at Microsoft, Jeff successfully managed multi regional projects for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and spearheaded the implementation of Microsoft’s global Government Engagement efforts in Asia. He also led Microsoft’s public sector team in the development on an innovative executive program for government leaders, academics and Microsoft executives in partnership with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore in Singapore.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Jeff was Director of Business Development for Central Asia Development Group (CADG), a private development organization involved in the implementation of infrastructure, agriculture, and economic development projects in Afghanistan and which partners with various agencies such as USAID, World Bank, UN agencies, and other donors.

Jeff was involved in the successful implementation of reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in southern Afghanistan valued at more than US$30 million between 2002 and 2005. In 2006, Jeff spearheaded the expansion of CASG by establishing the organization’s presence in South East Asia in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Jeff also has experience in the financial services sector having previously worked at Reuters Financial Services as a Business Development Manager and as an Institutional Foreign Exchange Dealer for the Royal Bank of Canada in Singapore, Australia, and Canada.

Jeff holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in Canada and an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University in the U.S.A. He attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he has completed a diploma program on Innovations in Governance.
