Please join us on our third session of a three part deep dive, in partnership with Marsh and McLennan and AmCham discussing Emerging Risks, Enterprise Risk Management and ESG.

During these interactive sessions we will explore the role of the board in governing these this increasing important and inter-connected areas of risk and opportunity.

The sessions will be led by Specialists from across MMC with domain expertise in the risk, strategy and people issues firms today face.

Head of Strategic Risk at Marsh

A nationally recognized expert, Reid is a Managing Director heading the Emerging Risks Group at Marsh and is the US Cyber Consulting Leader. Prior to Marsh, Reid joined JLT in 2015 as Senior Vice President after a 22-year career in the U.S. Army. Reid actively advises numerous senior government, industry leaders, and Boards with particular emphasis on cyber, geopolitical, and strategic risk advisory. The Emerging Risks Group deploys quantitative and qualitative methods to address our clients’ most complex risks, which enable decisions at the executive and Board levels.

Reid serves a member of the New York City Fire Department’s Terrorism Task Force, providing subject matter expertise on resiliency, preparedness, and cyber issues for senior leaders in New York City, a position he has held since 2003. He also served on the University of Chicago’s Project on Security and Threats Advisory Board from 2016 to 2019.

In his last position in government, he served as the senior intelligence strategist for the Middle East and South Asia at U.S. Central Command, leading the organization’s most elite analytical team, for which he received the Director of National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation. Previously Reid was selected for a prestigious fellowship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). During his fellowship year, he led the first summit on intellectual property theft through cyber means.

Having founded the nation’s premier counterterrorism research institute, The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, he led influential national counterterrorism policy reviews and testified before a bicameral Congressional committee hearing. During his career, he was deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and Latin America while serving in Special Operations Forces.

The editor of two books on transnational threats and author of numerous articles, Reid was a professor at the United States Military Academy and an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s graduate School of International and Public Affairs for eight years. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Sawyer holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University.

Derek is the Head of Strategic Risk Consulting for Asia and is based in Singapore. He leads a team of consultants who deliver a wide range of risk management solutions to clients across the region. Derek’s focus is on helping clients develop resilience in an evolving risk landscape that sees emerging threats gaining prominence in a post-pandemic world. The Strategic Risk Consulting team specializes in the following practices: Enterprise Risk Management, Business Continuity Management, Incident Response & Crisis Management, and Climate & Sustainability.

Prior to joining Marsh, Derek was the Head of Crisis & Security Consulting in Asia-Pacific for a global specialist risk management consultancy. In that role, he helped clients develop and implement preventative security management controls to protect people, assets and reputations. Additionally, he delivered advisory during real-world incidents and crises to mitigate the impacts of acute threats to clients’ organizations. Derek also served as the Regional Manager for mainland Southeast Asia at a boutique consultancy that specialized in HSE risk management in upstream oil & gas operations. Finally, he is a 12-year veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served in several locations around the world as an aviation logistics officer.
