Come 9 May 2022, Filipinos will cast their ballots to elect the country's next president and over 18,000 officials. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is leading in the polls, with 60% of prospective votes. However, much can still happen at the national and local levels. The next president will face significant challenges, including the country's post-COVID-19 economic recovery, managing social inequality, and shaping the Philippines' foreign relations.

Mr. Ramon “Ricky” A. Carandang supports Asia Group Advisors and its clients with strategic communications, regulatory advocacy, and crucial understanding of corporate and government relations in the Philippines.

Mr. Carandang was appointed Secretary of Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning by President Benigno S. Aquino III in July 2010. He served as President Aquino’s chief messaging strategist until leaving government in 2013. He also joined ABS-CBN, the largest broadcast network in the Philippines, where he worked as a reporter, presenter, and commentator. During his stint in ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), he hosted his own news commentary shows The Rundown and The Big Picture. He also worked as field reporter for TV Patrol and Bandila, the largest local language news programs, as well as presenter for the current affairs program The Correspondents.

Before his career in communications, Mr. Carandang spent his early years as an investment professional, working as an analyst and sales executive for various brokerage houses including Pryce Securities, HG Asia Securities, and Kim Eng Securities. Mr. Carandang is currently the chief executive officer of Ronin Consultancy Services’ (RCS). He and RCS assist Asia Group Advisors with building strategic relationships with key stakeholders and government officials and offering advisory services of on the ground developments in Philippines and beyond. Together, Asia Group Advisors is able to offer our clients unique and specialized expertise.

Professor Dennis C. Coronacion is a political analyst and an expert in Philippine local politics and international relations. He is currently the Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and a faculty member of UST Graduate School.

He concurrently serves as the President of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) and sits as a Board Member of the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC). He is one of the co-authors of Convergence, a college textbook about globalization and sustainable development.

Prof. Dennis C. Coronacion received both his PhD in Political Science and his Master in Arts Degree in Political Science from UST Graduate School.

Ms. Ganga Nirmal Kumar is currently the Regional Business Improvement Leader for 3M’s APAC Consumer Business Group. In her role as the regional business Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, she partners with senior business leadership on complex projects to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of processes as well as to support growth and mitigate risks. Ganga Nirmal has over 15 years of public policy, strategic partnership and risk mitigation experience across the public and private sector.

She joined 3M in 2017 as the Head of 3M’s Government Affairs & Markets in Singapore In addition to her responsibilities across 3M regional headquarters in Singapore, she also led key government business and manufacturing projects in Asia, e.g. public private partnerships, trade policy advocacy, environment and community impact as well as risk management.

Prior to joining 3M, Ganga was in the Singapore Public Service with stints at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and was Managing Director of a local small enterprise in the travel and transportation sector.

Ganga co-chairs American Chamber of Commerce’s Committee on Government and Regional Affairs. She is also an Executive Member of the Climate Action SG Alliance (CASA).

Ganga Nirmal holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD, a Bachelor in Arts and Social Sciences from NUS, and Advanced Certification in Sustainability and Sustainable Business from SMU.
